More about our Wedding Plans!
We are
happy to have you share in our joy! Following is some information that will
help you with your visit to the Howell Living History Farm on September 5, 2009
(rain date September 12, 2009). We met through a mutual interest in plowing
with
horses and thought getting married at the 26th Annual Plowing Match a fitting
and
novel way to celebrate our day with each other and to celebrate our love of
the horses
and lifestyle with friends and family. The staff and members of the Howell Living
History Farm are gracious in allowing us to share our special day with them
on the
same day of the 26th Annual Plowing Match. The purpose of the annual plowing
and
driving competition is to sustain and develop historic agricultural skills among
participants
and observers. The teamsters range in age from youngsters to seniors, and
bring teams of two or three oxen, mules, horses or ponies. They demonstrate
skills
required of farmers who worked the land over 100 years ago.
You will not only see what a great place the Howell Living History Farm is,
you will
get a peek at what we like to do in our “spare time”. Following
are some tips to
make your day as relaxing and comfortable as possible. Think of your visit a
bit like
a day on the beach with the family; relaxing and enjoying the great outdoors.
Look for the sign TOLMIE/NAPRAVNIK when you arrive. Say hello to our “meeter
and greeter” who will give you additional information about the day, help
you with
directions, a farm map, transportation to the field, lunch arrangements, and
any questions
you may have.
Wear a hat, comfortable shoes and clothing. Yes, jeans are appropriate!
Bring water and sun block and lawn chairs and if you have small children a pull
wagon for them to ride (and nap) in when they get tired.
The day will consist of a plowing competition in the morning and a log pulling
competition
in the afternoon (oh yeah and the wedding at noonish).
Call the Howell Farm if it rains a lot the week of September 5th to see if the
match
will be rescheduled for September 12, 2009.
Lambertville and New Hope are a 15 minute drive from the farm for those of you
who do not wish to spend the day.
