The
AVF CSA |
Now
in our 17th season, we provide local families with a wide variety of seasonal
organic produce, which is available for pick up each week. By purchasing
a share in the CSA, (Community Supported Agriculture), you are not only
entitled to 25-30 weekly pick-ups, but you become part of our farm community,
helping to preserve a working farm and providing for the stewardship of
our farmland by supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
The 2009 season started on May 5 with spinach, lettuces, arugula and radishes. We are forecasting early broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage, (brassicas), which were abundant at the end of last season. We move into peas, chard, beets, cucumbers and the first of the basil and other herbs, as well as our berry harvest. Mid summer will see the first tomatoes, summer squash, string beans and our garlic harvest.
In
August and September the tomatoes are ripening as fast as we can pick
them and you will be getting a variety of peppers, eggplants and various
melons. The cooler weather in September and October brings back the kale,
radishes and brassicas. Lettuces and other greens are planted successively
to try and include them throughout the season. |

Not every season yeilds a surplus, but our shareholders have found that on average, over the season, there is much better value than buying organic at the supermarket which is at least a week old (from California). If you are interested in providing a work contribution in exchange for a discount on your share, be sure to read Workshare Rules and Requirements We would like your commitment form and pick list, and payment in full by May 1, 2010. Please consider early registration to guarantee availability. |
